Janus – The Roman God of Doors
(야누스 – 로마 신화의 문들의 신)
Every Roman home had statuary to Janus, whose name in Latin meant ‘arched passage, doorway’ and came from the word for ‘door’. Why a god of doors? Every door is not only an exit but also an entrance, and Romans, much like Koreans, believed in the importance of getting off to a good start. Now you can guess how January, the first month got its name.
